Weekly arts & music schedule
This is a quieter week than the last one, and honestly that is not a bad thing. Monday hands you a trivia-and-bingo trifecta from Marco Island to Estero, all three at 7:00 PM, so pick your poison. Thursday and Friday are the music nights, with Joe Marino and Dockside Duo on Tamiami Trail, Madison Morris later at Midnight Tavern, and open mic at Food & Thought if you want to be the one holding the microphone. Saturday brings the Back to School Bash, which is the practical stop of the week if you have kids and a supply list. Sunday closes it out with beachside brunch on the Gulf. Two summer camp weeks and a belly dance class fill in the gaps. Here is everything worth getting off the couch for.
We recommend confirming with event hosts for complete details and current schedules

The Drink Everyoneโs Reaching For ๐ธโจ
This season, Iโm reaching for something different: Vesper by Pique.
Pique is known for blending ancient botanicals with modern science to create elevated wellness essentials. Vesper might be my favorite yet. Itโs a non-alcoholic, adaptogenic aperitif that delivers the relaxed, social glow of a cocktail. Without alcohol or the next-day fog.
Itโs what I pour when I want something special in my glass on a bright spring evening. Each sip feels celebratory and uplifting. Relaxed body. Clear mind. No haze. No sleep disruption.
Crafted with L-theanine, lemon balm, gentian root, damiana, and elderflower, Vesper is sparkling, tart, and beautifully herbaceous.
If youโre ready for a new kind of happy hour, try Vesper here. ๐ฟโจ

๐ฐ What's Happening in Naples
๐ Collier Sheriff Collects $8.25 Million in State Immigration Reimbursements
State CFO Blaise Ingoglia handed out $8.78 million in State Board of Immigration Enforcement reimbursements at a Naples event, with $8,250,733.55 going to the Collier County Sheriff's Office and $74,326.86 to Naples Police. The money covers 287(g) training bonuses, radios, rapid DNA equipment, transport vehicles, body cameras, and armor. Arcadia Police and the Hendry County Sheriff's Office took smaller shares.
๐ Marco Island Council Backs Off Police Outsourcing After Resident Revolt
City Council confirmed it has no plans to outsource the Marco Island Police Department, reversing course after five of seven councilors voted in early June to put the idea on a future agenda and asked the city manager for cost figures from the Collier County Sheriff's Office. Councilwoman Bonita Schwan had floated it as a savings hedge in case voters pass the November state amendment cutting property taxes. Residents answered with yard signs, letters, and a run of speeches at council meetings.
๐ Fifth Avenue Condo Project Lands $202 Million Construction Package
The Avenue, the mixed-use project on Fifth Avenue South, closed $202 million in construction financing from Bayview Commercial Mortgage Finance, split between $109 million in C-PACE and a $93 million construction loan. Developed by APREA and JSB Capital Group with contractor DeAngelis Diamond, it will deliver 50 residences over 75,000 square feet of retail across four three-story buildings. Vertical construction starts in August, with move-ins expected in early 2028.
๐ Pine Ridge Road Closes Under I-75 for Weekend Paving
FDOT shut Pine Ridge Road at the I-75 interchange from 11:00 PM Friday through 6:00 AM Monday to pave and stripe, with July 31 to August 3 held as the weather backup. That backup window matters if you drive it: both directions under I-75 close along with both off-ramp left turns, detouring traffic to Immokalee Road and Logan Boulevard or Golden Gate Parkway and Livingston Road. Sidewalk, pond, and signal work pushes final completion to mid-2027.
๐ Golden Gate Estates Gets a Joint Fire and EMS Station
Station 74 opened at 99 DeSoto Blvd. S. near Golden Gate Boulevard, putting Collier County EMS and Greater Naples Fire Rescue crews under one roof in one of the county's fastest-growing areas. The county expects faster response on fires, brush fires, medical calls, and crashes. Officials also say it should improve the area's fire protection classification, which insurers use to set rates.
๐ Michelbob's Adds an 80-Seat Rib House in North Naples
Michelbob's Championship Ribs & Steaks is opening a third location in a 1,620-square-foot, roughly 80-seat space at 14700 Tamiami Trail N. in Tamiami Square, taking over the former Aroma Indian Cuisine. The original has been at 371 Airport-Pulling Road since 1979, and Tampa Bay chain Burger Monger is taking the former Kelly's Roast Beef drive-thru at Founders Square.
๐ Miami Firm Pays $26.5 Million for a Naples Industrial Park
Naples Small Bay, an 83,607-square-foot, two-building complex at 4110-4120 Enterprise Ave. near Naples Airport, sold to Midtown Capital Partners of Miami. The 5-acre property has 48 suites, about 30 tenants, and was 82 percent leased at closing.
๐ Collier Community Foundation Opens Its Wyss Center Headquarters
The foundation has moved into the Wyss Center at 2340 Vanderbilt Beach Road, named for a $5 million leadership gift from Joanne Wyss and her late husband, Karl. Founded in 1985, the foundation has awarded $423.7 million in grants overall, including $31.5 million in fiscal 2026.
๐ Naples Airport Lands a Fourth Straight Best-Workplace Ranking
The 142-employee Naples Airport Authority made Gulfshore Business magazine's Best Places to Work list for the fourth year running, 2023 through 2026. Pennsylvania firm Best Companies Group ran the confidential employee survey and policy review. Executive Director Chris Rozansky credited staff culture, and the perks list includes on-site health screenings, flexible schedules, and a self-funded employee emergency program.
๐ NCH Hires a Transplant Cardiologist to Build a Heart Transplant Program
Rafael Garcia-Cortes, MD, MPHS joined NCH in mid-July as medical director of the heart transplant program at the Rooney Heart Institute, arriving from Ascension St. Vincent in Indianapolis where he was team cardiologist for the WNBA's Indiana Fever. The program is set to launch after the R.M. Schulze Family Heart and Stroke Critical Care Center opens. Institute president Robert Cubeddu, MD, cited his work in mechanical circulatory support.
๐ Both NCH Hospitals Take American Heart Association Stroke Honors
NCH Downtown Naples and NCH North both earned Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Gold Plus awards based on patient care from January 2024 through December 2025. Downtown Naples also picked up Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus and Advanced Therapy recognition. The NCH Wingard Stroke Institute is one of only five Joint Commission-certified Comprehensive Stroke Centers in Florida.
๐ Lorenzo Walker Tech Graduates Its First LPN-to-RN Class
Collier County Public Schools marked the inaugural graduating class of the Professional Nursing LPN to RN Bridge Program at Lorenzo Walker Technical College, backed by the Collier Community Foundation. The district framed it as a follow-on to a similar recent milestone at iTECH in Immokalee. It is a local pipeline into a field the county keeps struggling to staff.
๐ Naples Botanical Garden Banks Its One Millionth Seed
The Garden's seed bank, started in 2021, hit one million seeds this month with a woolly lupine from sand ridge habitat. The collection now preserves 166 species, roughly 15 percent of Collier County's flora, in freezer-scale storage. Vice President of Conservation Chad Washburn notes seeds from the restoration collection were used in the county's 2025 beach dune replanting project.
๐ Marco Island Museum Opens an Underwater Oil Painting Show
"Underwater World, The Beauty Beneath," oil paintings by Inez Hudson, runs through October 31 at the Marco Island Historical Museum, 180 S. Heathwood Drive. Also worth noting from the same arts brief: The Naples Players hold open auditions for "Come from Away" on August 1 from noon to 4:00 PM at 701 Fifth Avenue South, for a November 18 to December 20 run.
๐ Great Wolf Lodge Runs Kidz Bop Pool Nights Through August
The Naples resort turned its outdoor pool into an evening venue for a Kidz Bop Ultimate Pool Party, screening the Kidz Bop concert movie with disco lighting and glowing beach balls. The run continues Tuesdays through Thursdays until August 13, weather permitting. There is a poolside bar with light-up kids' drinks and adult beverages, which tells you who the real audience is.
๐ Tropical Storm Bertha's Surf Puts Collier Sea Turtle Nests at Risk
Higher tides and heavier surf from Bertha eroded Collier shoreline and pushed water toward loggerhead nests, with some not expected to make it. The damage ran well past Collier: the Destin-Fort Walton Beach patrol reported only 4 of 22 nests survived, and Alligator Point lost all 7 of its nests. Florida's nesting season runs March through October across more than 1,300 miles of shoreline.
๐ UF Team Lands $1 Million to Fight Saltwater Creeping Inland
The National Science Foundation awarded $1 million to a University of Florida team led by hydrology professor Young Gu Her to study natural defenses against saltwater intrusion and sea-level-driven flooding in Southwest and Southeast Florida. The work will test mangrove restoration, rain gardens, porous pavement, and cisterns as ways to protect groundwater. Her says the goal is to give local governments clear options.
๐ Endangered Species Act Rewrite Puts Panthers and Manatees in Play
More than 100 Florida species, including panthers, manatees, sea turtles, and bonneted bats, face weakened protection under three federal rule changes. One taking effect September 14 redefines "harm" so habitat degradation no longer counts. Two more, effective August 20, strip automatic protections for newly listed threatened species and require regulators to weigh economic impact before protecting habitat. Sarah Gledhill of the Florida Wildlife Federation calls Florida ground zero for the change.
๐ A Membership Service Will Fly You Out Ahead of a Hurricane

The leadership team includes 18-year National Hurricane Center forecaster Wallace Barnes as chief meteorologist. Members cover their own lodging and return travel.
๐ Drought-Parched Gulf Coast Braces for Three to Five Inches of Rain
Forecasters expect above-normal storm chances across South Florida from Sunday through Thursday, with 3 to 5 inches possible along the Gulf Coast. Slow-moving storms raise flash flood risk, mostly along the I-95 corridor. The region north of Punta Gorda is still in extreme drought, so most of this rain is welcome, just plan around the afternoons.
