A wildfire in Big Cypress National Preserve has grown to over 500 acres with zero percent containment, driven by what officials call the worst drought to hit Florida in 25 years. The Collier County Sheriff's Office ordered visitors out of Bear Island and surrounding campgrounds, with six fire engines and two helicopters deployed.

🔗 Collier County Measles Cases Continue to Climb
Two more cases were reported in late March, bringing Collier County's 2026 total to 106 confirmed cases. The outbreak began in February at Ave Maria University and has continued spreading into the broader community.

🔗 Florida SNAP Ban on Soda and Candy Takes Effect April 20
Starting April 20, SNAP recipients in Florida can no longer use benefits to buy sodas, energy drinks, candy, or shelf-stable desserts. Brands like Monster, Red Bull, and Celsius are on the restricted list. Sports drinks like Gatorade and plain sparkling water remain allowed.

Construction is underway on a 162,700-square-foot Costco at Collier Boulevard and Rattlesnake Hammock Road, targeting a fall 2026 opening. A third Home Depot is also under construction on US 41 East in East Naples.

Shake Shack opened at Mercato in February, Barrio Taqueria debuted on 5th Avenue South, and Connors Steak and Seafood arrived in North Naples. On the other side, Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen and Sonic Drive-In in East Naples closed permanently.
